Historical site of one of the earliest commercial settlements in New England. Reproduction of one of the three forts built there in pre-colonial time. Open to the public and usually free. Interesting small museum of artifacts found on the property during several excavations. Restaurant on the property with excellent view of the harbor.
Cool fort. Interesting history.
I was unaware that this little treasure existed. I was visiting Pemaquid Beach and this was just a small ride down the street. Well maintained, historical information located in the stone structure, and you can walk all the way to the top! The 360 view from the top makes it all worth it!
Just happened to be here when the period reenactors where here. Living history is so fun. I will be planning my trips accordingly from now on.
If you're in the Pemaquid Maine area, check out the Bristol Harbor Days. A nice folksy festival that features local artists-vendors, food and you get to go in and climb to the top of the fort-the view was spectacular. We bought local crafts from the area here, listened to great music and on Saturday night..fireworks.
